Summer internship kick-starts a stellar career

Gazelle Moinfar

Project Leader

The decision to take on a summer internship with Fletcher while on summer break from her Bachelor of Architecture shaped Gazelle's career.

An eight week stint at the Wellington Regional Hospital project ignited her passion for construction, so when she was offered a cadetship at the end of the summer break, she grabbed it. The two year programme introduced her to all aspects of the industry, including estimating, quantity surveying, programming, tender submissions and developing construction methodologies. During the final year of her cadetship Gazelle managed the fitout of the Datacom building in Central Wellington, which involved the internal demolition and re-fit of two 10 storey towers, and a floor extension between the two towers.

Since joining us fulltime, Gazelle has managed the seismic strengthening of a 61-storey tower, and various interior fitouts.

I applied for a summer job at Fletcher intending to work for the summer break. Suddenly it’s nearly eight years! I’ve never been bored. Fletcher has always given me the opportunity to do new things.

With a passion for promoting women in construction, Gazelle is an active member of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). She is a member of the New Zealand Green Building Council, and an Accredited Greenstar Professional.

Gazelle is an emerging leader within Fletcher with a bright future. In recognition of her work, she received the Young Achiever Award at the 2015 NZ Institute of Building Awards.
