AUT WE Stage 1 – School of Art & Design

  • Division: Interiors
  • Location: Auckland
  • Started: August 2007
  • Cost: $3.6 million
  • Client: AUT University
  • Completed: February 2008

Two levels of demolition and fit-out along with a fire system upgrade to the entire building, all completed within a tight timeframe.

Staged commencement dates for both levels were required, with level 4 being allocated only 11 weeks over the Christmas period from the commencement of demolition through to handover for AUT fit-out items.

Specialised offshore materials were required and non-standard items were also sourced from within New Zealand. Features include: patterned punched aluminium ceiling panels, combined with Aluart anodised aluminium panels at the entrance of the building as well as classrooms; natural random timber providing for breakout areas between classrooms and feature walls within; ceiling bulkheads and detailing giving the effect of floating ceilings; and aluminium panelled walls and canopy at the entrance, along with a glazed shop-front for displays, and glazed balustrade.
