Avalon Drive Bypass

  • Division: Engineering
  • Location: Hamilton
  • Started: February 2007
  • Cost: $26.6 million
  • Client: Transit NZ
  • Completed: October 2008

Construction of two major roundabouts, two bridges, and a 2.7km two-lane bypass off Avalon Drive.

The project provided a free-flowing, high-capacity route bypassing a congested section of Avalon Drive from Rotokauri Road to Forest Lake Road.

One of the main challenges was the construction of the Norton Road rail over-bridge with its numerous service diversions, signalling shifts and work running alongside the Main Trunk rail line – one of the busiest rail track lines in the Waikato.
