Mangatawhiri Dam Spillway

  • Division: Engineering
  • Location: Auckland
  • Started: May 2007
  • Cost: $2.5 million
  • Client: Watercare Services
  • Completed: November 2007

Built in the early 1960s, the spillway channel was at the point of yield due to a slip plane in the adjacent hillside and required reinforcing.

Brian Perry Civil relined the channel and excavated and refilled a 100m long by 8m deep hole at the base of the spillway, remnant of a major spill in 1966 that ran at 140m3 per second at its peak.
