Training under fire
Construction of a Hot Fire Training Facility for the local airport fire service in Tafuna, American Samoa.
Once complete it will offer three main training areas which together are designed to simulate real life fire emergencies: a steel 737 mock plane that will be used to simulate wheel, engine, tail, and cockpit fires by way of butane and jet fuel nozzles; the ‘burn pit’ where firefighters can train in fighting large fires from several sides; and a three-level ‘burn building’ with pyroclastic lining.
The first of its kind in the South Pacific, it is intended the facility will provide a training area for other regional airport firefighters as well.

Training Under Fire
Heating it up in the tropics (some more), Site Superintendent Teo Faau Smith and his team have been busy on a slightly unusual project constructing a Hot Fire Training Facility for the Airport fire service in Tafuna, American Samoa.
Cool design
It’s not often you willingly allow someone to set fire to something you’ve just built.
