A new business operations building for the Bank of New Zealand on Wellington's waterfront.
The structure consists of three separate six level buildings - known as piers - 13.5m apart and joined by internal air bridges crossing the two atria to form one open space at each level.
The 5-star Green Design rated building under the New Zealand Green Building Council rating system features: heavy insulation, rainwater harvesting, acoustic linings, and a flexible ventilation system. The project team was committed to reducing as much waste as possible throughout the construction period also.
Brian Perry Civil played a crucial role early in the project driving over 70 concrete and steel piles more than 30m deep into what turned out to be extremely variable ground. A polymer slurry method was implemented - commonly used overseas but it is perhaps the first time it was used in New Zealand.
