Marstel Mt. Maunganui Bulk Liquids Storage and Handling Facility

  • Division: Engineering
  • Location: Port of Tauranga, Mt. Maunganui
  • Started: May 2007
  • Cost: $14.6 million
  • Client: Marstel Terminals
  • Completed: June 2008

Chemical engineering

Construction of two chemical and nine non-dangerous 13m high product storage tanks for Marstel Terminals located at the Port of Tauranga.

Two bunded areas (walled off areas acting to contain fluid if it spills), totalling 2,700m2, around the tanks were also constructed, together with a truck filling station for loading and unloading of chemicals, a weighbridge, spill containment system, boilers, compressors, additional tank bases, an administration/control room building, and a plant room/workshop building.

Where the tank fabrication contract would normally be handled by one subcontractor, this project had the added challenge of it being split between two to enable the project team to complete construction of the tanks within a very tight timeframe.

Brian Perry Civil was a key participant in this project, providing civil and structural engineering expertise.
