The Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, one of New Zealand's most celebrated mainland wildlife sanctuaries, is receiving a much anticipated makeover of its Visitor and Education Centre.
The project has its share of challenges with the new structure being built into a rocky cliff and sitting on top of an earth dam and primary spillway for the existing dam at the sanctuary. There is also a tunnel 12m below the site housing two of Wellington's main water supply pipes, and a major fault line that runs a few metres in front of the site.
Brian Perry Civil carried out the piling works, constructing 22 bored piles at depths of up to 18m - several of which were installed into part of the dam structure.
