CentrePort NZ Customs Service (D4) Development

  • Division: Building
  • Location: Wellington
  • Started: August 2008
  • Cost: $22.8 million
  • Client: CentrePort
  • Completed: Under Construction

Construction of a new six-storey office building as part of CentrePort's Harbour Quays Development.

To be tenanted by NZ Customs Service, the building has been designed by Studio Pacific Architecture to target a Green Star office design rating of 5-stars. 'Green' features include spandrel panels on the façade - fibre reinforced precast concrete units that involve complex diagonal geometry.

Brian Perry Civil carried out the piling works prior to construction, completing 28 bored piles and 16 timber driven piles. A polymer drilling fluid was initially thought to be the right stuff for the bored piles but it was discovered that high salt levels in the tidally affected ground water would greatly reduce the life expectancy of Poly-Bore. To combat the problem another drilling fluid, known as PAC-R, was used in conjunction with the polymer.
