Ministry of Education, Sports & Culture (MESC) Headquarters Building

  • Division: South Pacific
  • Location: Samoa
  • Started: June 2009
  • Cost: NZ $16 million
  • Client: Government of Samoa
  • Completed: Under Construction

A new $16 million headquarters for the Samoan Ministry of Education, Sports & Culture in Apia.

The building comprises conventional pad footings with a reinforced concrete structure, structural steel roof trusses and steel roof cladding. Provision has been made for a solar hot-water system to harness renewable solar energy and provide a back-up energy supply. Comprising two main buildings linked by an airbridge, car parking and a fale, the design shows a modern take on local flavours and forms with extensive timber detailing to a façade that acts as both decoration and protection from the elements.

The building will accommodate 100 staff and includes a new IT component for the administration.
