MacKay’s to Waikanae Preload

  • Division: Engineering
  • Location: Wellington
  • Started: December 2008
  • Cost: $8.7 million
  • Client: ONTRACK
  • Completed: Under Construction

Brian Perry Civil is helping to make commuting on the rail line between Waikanae and Wellington easier and quicker.

The main project, for which the new MacKay’s to Waikanae Preload contract is preparation, is to construct a second rail track adjacent to the existing North Island Main Trunk. This will run for 15km between Paekakariki and Waikanae, north of Wellington.

The contract involves the preloading of swamp areas to accelerate the settlement of organic soils in advance of the main earthworks contract.

Much of the project involves working in a narrow corridor between the rail line and SH1 which offers challenges in terms of safety and programming.
