Familiar uncertainty

Times of uncertainty are not new for those who operate throughout the South Pacific.  Work is varied and variable and we have seen the highs and lows of demand come and go in the various island nations in which we operate.

At the moment the Melanesian Islands are enjoying a boom to an extent we have not seen for a few years, while other areas of Polynesia are somewhat quieter.  Overall the outlook for the division remains positive.

Our major constraint remains the need for adaptable and adventurous people.  Some of our long-term expats simply love the Island life and many have experienced work in a number of our seven branches; other have found that a short-term stint has provided sufficient experience and autonomy to propel their careers once they are back in the mainstream.  Ideally we are looking for people at either end of the experience spectrum - those towards the end of their career, with kids left home and a thirst for adventure.

The Fletcher Construction Company undertook its first overseas contract in 1946, in Western Samoa. It has been active in the South Pacific ever since.

By establishing appropriate people with sound support from New Zealand, and building collaborative relationships throughout the South Pacific islands, Fletcher has become the leading quality builder in the region.

Its commitment to certainty of delivery, its access to dependable resources and the innovative mindset of its people has enabled Fletcher to claim pride of place in the South Pacific. Not only have Fletcher teams delivered local government buildings such as parliaments and reserve banks - becoming an integral part of the communities in which they live and work - they have also undertaken work for foreign embassies, aid organisations and multi-nationals.
