Congratulations to our Whakatupu Māori Leadership Development Programme graduates

news whakatupu

Ngā mihi nui ki nga tauira o Whakatupu I tēnei tau.

Congratulations to our graduates of this year’s Whakatupu Māori Leadership Development Programme. Whakatupu is designed to create a pipeline of Māori leaders across the business, like Fletcher Construction graduate engineer Hine Jones (Ngāti Tūwharetoa). She says taking part in the course has been a very reflective process. "One of the things I enjoyed the most is decision-making through a Māori lens with the Pono, Tika, Aroha framework. Pono is looking at what is true, tika is taking appropriate action, and aroha is making sure you show compassion in that decision.

Connecting with tikanga is something Hine is doing with her whānau too. "Every year we have a wānanga where we learn all about our history, whakapapa and marae protocols, that kind of thing. It’s very cool. My parents are proud I was chosen for whakatupu. Actually, they’re proud of everything I do."

Fletcher Building Mātauranga Māori (Cultural Coordinator) Val Panui says Hine is an inspiring mana wahine who’s forging a path with Fletcher Construction. “Hine just happens to be an engineer – a Māori wahine engineer. She’s a role model that is rare for our tamariki to aspire to."
