Fletcher Construction Chief Executive Peter Reidy stood alongside the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Building and Construction Minister Jenny Salesa and other Ministers as the Government announced its new collaborative partnership with construction industry leaders.

Peter who is the chair of the Accord Development Group says, “We as designers, clients and constructors need to establish a much stronger foundation of behavioural principles to guide our decision making. We need to reset the culture in order to lift our performance.”

Developed jointly by Ministers, government agencies and industry leaders from across the construction sector, the Construction Sector Accord signals a stronger partnership between the Government and industry to deliver on a range of commitments and initiatives to transform the sector.

We have a lot of work ahead of us but we will rise up to the challenge and grab this opportunity with both hands.

A number of industry representatives have identified and vocalised the need for greater leadership and collaboration within the construction sector, and companies such as Downer, Watercare, Fonterra and Tonkin & Taylor, along with Fletcher, have signed up to the Accord.

The Accord Development Group includes representatives from some of New Zealand's biggest construction companies, asset owners, consultancies, industry bodies and the workforce. The Group will work together to create a high performing construction sector that can deliver New Zealand's needs by addressing the priority work areas identified in the Accord.

Leading the Group is a responsibility Peter says he takes very seriously. "As business leaders we are charged with a unique responsibility; to construct a better built environment for the people of New Zealand," he said. "We have a lot of hard work ahead of us but we will rise up to the challenge and grab this opportunity with both hands."
