Te Kapene joins Higgins bitumen fleet
Higgins’ Volvo bitumen transporter is equipped with a low emission Eurofive, 700 horsepower engine.
Rated as a high productivity motor vehicle (HPMV) the Volvo is permitted to a maximum weight of 58000 kgs. This is 12000 kgs above standard which means it’s delivering more bitumen each trip, so less trips needed in total, improving fleet efficiency, overall economy and with less emissions it’s a win, win, win.
We named this Volvo Te Kapene (The Captain) in remembrance of a much respected and long serving member of the Green Team Brendon (Benny) Stewart, who very sadly passed away in 2021. Benny was the first person to investigate buying this high tech, low emission vehicle - we know he’d be glad to see it on the road now.
The transporter is part of the fleet delivering Higgins bulk bitumen from our site at the Port of Napier to Higgins branches and customers across the North Island.
