Fletcher Living: Our LowCO journey

We believe a low-carbon future is within reach for all Kiwi homes. To show what’s possible we’re introducing you to LowCO, our low energy, low carbon and low water use pilot homes project at Waiata Shores, Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.

This year, we will take you on a journey. We will show you how LowCO has been designed to have seven times less carbon, and use half the electricity and water of a standard built home. The people who will ultimately live here will be healthier, warmer and drier and have less bills to pay. You will hear from many people contributing to this ambitious project.

Follow us on our LowCO journey. These are our plans for the future.

Construction Sector Accord Beacon 2022 case study - Kāinga Ora Passive House standard

Kāinga Ora's Bader Ventura development reduces energy costs and carbon emissions through the Passive House standard.

New Zealand's building and construction sector contributes to around 15-20% of New Zealand's overall carbon emissions. It's critical for the construction industry to play a significant part in reducing carbon emissions for the future of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is tackling this challenge through its Carbon Neutral Housing Programme, including committing to reducing carbon in its residential developments by 2030. One of Kāinga Ora's key carbon reduction projects is its new development, Bader Ventura, located in Māngere, Auckland. It's the state housing provider's first residential development using the Passive House standard.

Construction Sector Accord Beacon 2022 case study - Relationship based contracting for complex projects

Waka Kotahi, HEB Construction and BECA focus on delivering safety outcomes in the quickest possible time using a different procurement strategy.

The section of State Highway 2 (SH2) between Waihi and Omokoroa is one of the country’s most dangerous roads, and the SH2 Waihi to Omokoroa (W2O) project sought to deliver much needed safety improvements as quickly as possible, for the benefit of the local community, wider Bay of Plenty, and those passing through.

This procurement strategy focussed on delivering safety outcomes in the quickest possible time within the funding constraints, which required a delivery partner with shared values and an energised approach to delivery.

Embodied carbon measurement using CCS

For Fletcher Building, climate change is an urgent, global priority and we are committed to doing our part in creating a sustainable future.

We have set carbon emissions reduction targets that are verified by an independent body: the Science Based Targets Initiative, which is in line with New Zealand commitments under the Paris agreement. Our commitment is to reduce our emissions 30% by 2030.

This Lunch and Learn session talks about the software we use to measure and keep track of our carbon emission.
