Progressing toward completion

latestnews tirakaubridge

We’re getting close to the finish line on the new Tī Rākau Bridge as part of the Eastern Busway. With just weeks to go, it’s a great moment to reflect on what’s gone into bringing this impressive structure to life.

Over the past 13 months, four cranes have supported construction, including a 300 tonne crawler alongside 250T, 80T and 55T units. Around 2,300 cubic metres of concrete have been poured to create a 180 metre long bridge spanning Pakūranga Creek, with piled foundations extending 20 metres down into the rock below. One of the standout moments was the critical Super T beam lift, completed as a tandem operation between a 300T crawler crane on the staging and a 230T mobile crane positioned behind the abutment on land.

Once complete, the bridge will carry buses, pedestrians and cyclists, helping improve connections for the community. With about a month to go, the focus is now on barriers, cycle rail installation, deck joints, asphalting and the final finishing touches that bring everything together.

The Eastern Busway is delivered by an alliance of Auckland Transport with Fletcher Construction, ACCIONA, AECOM, and Jacobs, in partnership with mana whenua.
