No two days the same

Lynne Makepeace

Construction Manager

2016 National Association of Women in Construction Professional Woman of the Year (Construction Category), Lynne is an outstanding leader with 25 years experience on major infrastructure projects in Egypt, South Africa and back in her home country, the UK. Since immigrating to New Zealand in 2005, she has built a formidable career with Fletcher, holding senior roles on the Northern Busway, Victoria Park Tunnel and the $1.4 billion Waterview Connection.

As Construction Manager for the Northern Section of the Waterview project, Lynne was responsible for a $180 million work scope, comprising four separate motorway-to-motorway interchange ramps that total 1.7km in length and, in places, tower more than 20m above ground. The mega viaducts traverse six motorway lanes - carrying over 50,000 vehicles per day.

Every day is different – the location is different, the challenges are different, the weather is different! There’s no two days the same.

“The rewards are great: pride in seeing a job completed successfully. Waterview delivered the biggest change to the way people get around in Auckland since the opening of the Harbour Bridge more than 50 years ago.”
Lynne volunteers her time to mentor others, including First Foundation (an educational trust founded to give young New Zealanders with plenty of talent but few financial resources, a hand up to tertiary education.) “The construction industry has been an exciting career for me. You get to really make your mark on the landscape. Now I am motivated to give back to the industry and do my part to help be the best they can be and see what a rewarding career it is.”
