When Manshika Narayan began her internship with Fletcher Higgins Fiji, she quickly realised it was the perfect place to grow her career in occupational health and safety. “I have always been drawn to the construction industry because of its exposure to diverse risks and the innovative methods used to manage these risks. Fletcher Higgins provided a great opportunity.”

As an intern, Manshika showed her passion for the role – making sure everyone on site wore the proper personal protective equipment, assisting in regular toolbox meetings, and supporting safety investigations, site tests and screenings. At the end of her internship, Fletcher Higgins offered her a full-time role which she says was an easy decision to make. “The company has a strong commitment to safety, with excellent safety standards, robust tools to uphold these standards, and meticulous implementation of controls.”

Now, as an EHSQ Coordinator for a Fletcher Higgins project, Manshika appreciates the role for allowing her to contribute to a safer work environment. She offers this piece of advice to young people considering the internship pathway: “Be proactive, eager to learn, and committed to safety. The experience will be invaluable and can lead to various career opportunities.”
