Bryne Hancy

Leading Hand

Bryne Hancy leads a team that undertakes a range of repairs to Hawke’s Bay's state highways, as part of the Network Outcomes Contract team. This can include things like repairing broken signs or edge marker posts, filling in potholes, setting up emergency traffic, and clearing accident debris or fallen trees from the road. Bryne and the team travel all over Hawke's Bay – and no two days are the same.

Nicknamed ‘The Toolman’, Bryne packs his truck with solutions for every possible scenario he might encounter. He enjoys problem-solving and especially likes being on callout as it’s the unexpected situations and emergencies that bring out the best in people. As a former Army Reserve, Bryne’s ability to assess situations, plan out activities, and ensure everyone is looked after come to the fore at these times.

After spending much of his life in Waikato, Bryne returned to Hawke’s Bay four years ago to be closer to whānau. Joining Higgins was his first role within the civil construction industry – however a wide and varied career has given him the skills for any task required of him.

His manager says Bryne has an outstanding work ethic and that his ability to think on his feet and come up with solutions makes him a valuable asset to the team.
