NZICC Airbridge connects time and space
After being convoyed up the North Island and receiving an ultra modern fit-out, some impressive precision crane work saw the 85-tonne 30m-long NZICC Airbridge suspended 11m above Hobson St during the 2020 Labour Weekend.
The fully-covered walkway links the existing SkyCity casino/hotel and new 303-room Horizon Hotel and NZ International Convention Centre for the first time and marks an iconic moment in the progress of the rebuild, coming just a few days after the one year anniversary of the build’s catastophic fire.
Fletcher Building’s Convention Centre Project Director, Grant Beckett says the beautiful new bridge is a sign of all the hard work going on behind the scenes to deleiver this important project for both the client and New Zealand.

The NZICC team are preparing to transition from the damage assessment to pre-construction phase and get on with the rest of the rebuilding. It has been inspiring to see the can-do energy from everyone involved, all focused on the delivery of a truly iconic urban precinct where Aucklanders and visitors can come together and enjoy as part of a vibrant, modern world-class city.
